Woman arrested on charges of attempting to drown a boy in a Northern California irrigation canal

MARISVILLE – A woman was arrested after allegedly trying to drown a 4-year-old boy in a Northern California irrigation canal before he was rescued, authorities said Tuesday.

A California Highway Patrol officer jumped into a canal in Yuba County on Monday and stopped the boy after battling a woman who was holding the boy facedown, “strangling him on a muddy embankment” at a depth of about 5 feet, one source said. CHP press release quoted by Sacramento Bee.

Taylor Delane Green, 31, of Dobbins, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, threatening children, resisting arrest, attempting to take an officer’s gun and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, CHP reported.

It was not immediately clear whether she had a lawyer who would act on her behalf.

The incident began around 6:30 pm when an officer was investigating reports that a Dodge Caravan was blocking a rural road.

An officer was checking the car when he heard screams nearby and saw Green in the weeds near an irrigation canal, the CHP reported.

At some point, Green was completely submerged in the water, and the boy and the officer jumped into the water, pulled the boy out and crawled back along the embankment, when Green began to fight him and tried to drag him and the boy under the water, while the officer held the “boy in one hand, ”said the CHP.

The officer managed to hand the boy over to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Sergeant who arrived, and authorities said Green was finally taken into custody by MPs, CHP officers and police officers from nearby Maryville.
