Yankees Notebook: Josh Donaldson starts the summer

CHICAGO – After scoring two home runs in his first 27 games, Josh Donaldson scored two runs in two nights. The veteran third baseman started slow, hitting .215/.342/.344 with .686 ops, but heating up as the Yankees offense shifts into high gear.

“I still think he’s getting there,” said Yankees manager Aaron Boone, “and I feel like he’s been like that for the past couple of weeks. He’s getting on base. He’s hitting the ball one by one. Making a game he’s been smoking Had some line drives last night too.

“so I think [he’s] Starting to get the ball on one line and in the air a little more consistently. But the quality of the batting, he has been grinding like this for the past few weeks, where is he getting that hit or he is running every day and now he has started chasing [with] some damage.”

Donaldson has had several hits in each of his last two matches after just one in the last 27. He has driven in six RBIs in the last two games and had seven in 27 before that.

He sees it as a product of a diverse lineup.

“I think what really gets us going right now is one to nine. We’re doing a really good job of putting the at-bat together. And when you can do that it takes everyone off the pressure.” Gives,” said Donaldson.[Aaron] judge. [Giancarlo] Stanton, [Anthony] rizzo, [Joey] Gallo and I, everyone is tying those batsmen together. when you do this. It makes your offense very dangerous.”

same old bomber

While the Yankees are promoting diversity in their lineup and offense, they have found their way to being the same old bombers. He went into Saturday night’s game against the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field and led the majors with 48 home runs. He has hit 11 homers in his last four matches.

While Boone has been quick to point out that he is getting big moves and doubles, he admits that the long ball is a significant part of the Yankees’ offense.

“It’s an important part of the game,” Boone said. “And we definitely have guys who can take the ball out of the ballpark. … One of the exciting things at the start of the season, as we’ve talked about a lot, is the way we’ve been able to win the ball game; Low scoring, defense, base running, pitching and hitting the ball out of the ballpark. The fact is we’ve swing really well over the last few nights and hit the ball out of the ballpark. Hopefully, it will continue to give us confidence that we can win in many different ways. ,

Aaron Judge leads the Major with 12 homers, Giancarlo Stanton has 10.

The Yankees scored in double digits in the first two games of the series and have already done so six times this season – matching their totals for all of 2021.

They also lead the big leagues in ops (.755) and slugging (.430).

You will talk to me

The White Sox made their first run off Gerrit Cole on the balk on Friday night. It came when he went to throw first, but DJ Lemhieu had left the bag. Boone said it was just poor communication from the bottom up.

“Just not enough quality communication, something that we have addressed. Something that shouldn’t happen,” Boone said. “It starts with me and goes all the way down to that. You know, it’s something we might need to make sure we’re airtight about it and communicate better. ,
