Navantia has created a “monodon” open innovation cell to promote research and testing of disruptive technologies and accelerate their implementation within the company.
New designation in the Latin term “monodon monoceros”, the scientific name of the narwhal, a species also known as the unicorn of the sea. “Monodon” will be officially presented at the defense fair FEINDEF, which will be held in Madrid between the 17th and 19th of May, and where the Navantia space dedicated to start-ups will be innovated, called Innova for Def&Sec.
“Monodon” will be the spearhead for testing, experimenting and attracting technology and engaging with the technological ecosystem and entrepreneurial leadership before new technologies are adopted by Navantia. It will also be dedicated to exploring the market sectors in which it works adjacently and cooperates with enterprises at different levels of maturity.
Its main purpose will therefore be to articulate a mechanism to increase access to technology, bring innovation to society, in a more mobile way, reach disruptive products in less time and support the national industrial fabric through strategic investments with other actors in the common ecosystem. of innovating.
“Companies must work on continuous technological transformation and adaptation, and much more so in a field like Defense.” With “monodon”, Navantia is equipped with the tools to guarantee long-term innovation and experimentation and to integrate disruptive technologies”, explained the president of Navantia, Ricardo DomÃnguez.
“Creation monodon” is a further step in our R+D+i plan. The 2018-2022 Strategic Plan involved the adoption of technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence or the Internet of Things, both in our processes and in the products and services we offer to our customers. Navantia is today the leading company and to maintain this position it must use new mechanisms”, said Donatus MartÃnez, director of Technology and Digital Transformation and director of Accounts and Services of Navantia.
“Monodon” will be an independent cell that will share the structure of the entire Navantia R+D+i, from research projects with programs (including S80 or F110) to the network of Centers of Excellence (Navantia CoEx) linked to different businesses.
