The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy did not stop. In the spotlight around the world for his recent 12-point plan for peace between Israel and Palestine and the recognition of the Palestinian State, Josep Borrell somewhat changed his tone in response to an old quip from Donald Trump about Ukraine.
The candidate for re-election to the presidency of the US has long defended that he has a ‘formula’ to stop the war “in 24 hours”, an idea that is now being heard again, taking advantage of his strength as a candidate of Republicans. And, above all, the Ukrainian leader, Volodimir Zelenski, gave his opinion about him, who saw this approach as “very dangerous” in front of his possible return to the White House.
Borrell, for his part, did not hesitate to evaluate this plan, pointing to questions from the media that “I believe that miracles have been done in Lourdes.”
“Frankly, we have not found the magic formula to solve the problem within 24 hours, but I understand that President Volodymyr Zelensky has already invited Trump to come to Kyiv and find a solution immediately,” said the head of the diplomacy. European Union in a press conference in Brussels after the meeting of foreign ministers of the bloc.
Although the media’s focus has shifted to Gaza, the head of European diplomacy remains focused on the war in Ukraine, which marks two years since Putin ordered the invasion. In this regard, and returning to the irony, he pointed out that “they are happy” that Trump revealed to them the “magic formula” to stop the war in just hours.
In an interview on British Channel 4 television, the Ukrainian leader called Trump’s statement “very dangerous” and considered that it might be just an election campaign, or a “political message.”
However, Zelensky took advantage of his intervention to invite the Republican candidate to visit Kyiv if he fulfilled his promise to stop the war.
